Happy Mother’s Day! This really is one of the best days of the year. It’s a day completely dedicated to our mothers. The women who spend countless hours raising us into the people we are today. Who put their entire happiness on hold just to make sure WE are happy. The sleepless nights, long drives, shoulders to cry on and ears to listen.
I had so much fun taking these pictures with my momma and mother-in-love. They may not be as comfortable as I am (nature of my job) in front of the camera, but man are they beautiful. These are pictures I will cherish forever. These two women have had the biggest impact on my life over anyone else. My sweet momma, who raised me into the woman I am. Who has always sacrificed EVERYTHING for her children. Who truly is my best friend, and the most beautiful woman I know. The best compliment you could give me is that I look just like her. And my mother-in-love, who raised my husband and gave him the same heart she has. Who continues to be an example to me every day of a Christ-like woman who embodies compassion, forgiveness and strength.
We live in a tough world, full of corruption and hate, but these two women stand out. They are not just shining lights in my life, but in everyone they meet as well. These two women are exceptional. I know I’m biased, but outsiders would say the same thing as well. I could go on and on talking about how much they both mean to me, but I thought I would share 3 big things I’ve learned from each of them.
Three things I’ve learned from my Momma:
1. Selflessness – if you know my mom, you know she will always put her family first. She gets less than 5 hours of sleep a night to support us with multiple jobs, but has never complained ONE time. She gets joy out of putting her children’s happiness above her own. I want to give her the world, but even if I could, she would immediately give it to others. That’s just who she is, and the best quality about her.
2. Patience – my momma is not only a mom to 5 kids, but also an elementary school teacher, so she has mastered patience. She has taught me to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). She has shown me to have patience with others, but even be patient with myself.
3. Not to care what others think – I’ve never met someone that truly has the confidence in herself like my mom does. Not about her outward appearance (as every woman struggles with that in one way or another) but about her values and who she is at her core. She knows the woman she is and wants to be, and if someone doesn’t accept that it doesn’t affect her at all. She has shown me not to let others opinions affect how I feel about myself and the dreams I want to accomplish.
Three things I’ve learned from my Mother-in-Love:
1. Kindness – for anyone who knows Mia, they will tell you that they have never met a woman so sweet in their entire life. I mean, honestly. Her heart is like 5 times bigger than the normal human. She lives her life to serve every single day. She has shown me the importance of having a giving heart, no matter what the circumstance is. She is slow to judge and quick to share anything the Lord blesses her with. If only everyone could have Mia Crum’s heart, the world would be a much happier place.
2. Forgive Quickly – I haven’t always had the easiest time forgiving others, but Mama Mia has helped me over the years through her example. It doesn’t matter what others have done to her, she will always be the first to forgive and show compassion for that person. She loves others like no one I’ve ever seen before.
3. Bravery – you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at her because she is so gorgeous, but 12 years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She lost everything that made her feel womanly, but she was STRONG. She fought through the cancer and is now 10 years cancer free! My goodness, her bravery. She stuck it out when times got tough, and continues to do that to this day. No matter what life throws at her, she remains one of the strongest women I’ve ever met.
I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from BOTH of these women is their heart for the Lord. They both live their life for Jesus and are incredible examples to everyone they meet. Their faith is never shaken no matter what trials and tribulations they come across. They both put family first, always. I know that no matter what they’re doing, if I call them in need, they will drop EVERYTHING to be there for me.
I can’t wait to be a mom one day myself, but until then I’ll keep learning and growing from the amazing examples the Lord has put in my life. If you are a mother, I hope you feel appreciated and loved today and every day. I know this day isn’t easy for everyone. Many people carry a heavy heart. For anyone reading this that is struggling with infertility, miscarriage or even the loss of a child or mom, I am sending out extra prayers for you today. This is still your day. Please know that you are LOVED, and no matter what your situation is, you have a Heavenly Father who loves you more than words can even describe.

Lessons My Mom Taught Me
See the good in people. No matter what kind of terrible side I’ve shown my mom, she always remembers the good parts of me. Maybe it’s because I’m her daughter, but I really believe that she seeks to see the good in people, which makes her world much more positive.
Know who you are (and who you want to be). My mom has always been supportive of my personal development and she’s always encouraged me to think about who I am and who I want to be in the future. She’s inspired me to work on becoming the best me I can possibly be.
Celebrate beauty. My mom is a beautiful person — inside and out — and she is one of the people in my life who has taught me to celebrate and appreciate beauty. She notices the beauty in things and, in turn, I’ve learned to do that as well.
