You know what’s crazy? Each and every one of us is incredibly different, created to be so unique that our physical appearance, voice, personality traits and even our fingerprints are one-of-a-kind. Stop and think about that – does it not blow your mind? Yet even though the Lord created us as unique masterpieces, we all seem to struggle with the same things. The stresses of work, family and finances. Insecurities. Managing our time. The inability to love in the way Christ desires us to. But we all seem to get down at times and think we’re going through this alone. Well let me tell you, my friend, you are not alone. So no matter what you are going through at this stage of your life, I thought I would share a few things I’ve been telling myself lately that you probably need to hear too!
1. Be KIND. – although this is such a simple concept, it’s probably one of the hardest things for people to grasp. We have enough hate and negativity in this world. Be different! It doesn’t matter how someone treats you, treat them better. Kill them with kindness. You will never regret being kind.
2. You don’t have to be perfect – why do we all set these crazy, unrealistic expectations on ourselves? To look perfect, make a lot of money, have a rockin’ bod, be successful, and have the most “Instagrammable” marriage, kids and home? And when all those things don’t happen (which they don’t, because news flash – we aren’t perfect!) we feel down on ourself and think we aren’t good enough. But here’s some good news, YOU ARE ENOUGH. God made you just the way you are, with immense talents and a heart of gold. Embrace your imperfections and shine a light to those around you.
3. Be present – do you ever feel like you’re just waiting for the next moment? Waiting for the weekend. That next vacation. A promotion. Why do we find it so hard to just live in the moment? Happiness is not feeling like you should be somewhere else, doing something else, being someone else. BE PRESENT. Put your phone down. We’re very good at preparing to live, but we need to get better at just living.
4. Self-confidence is so attractive – can I get an amen? There’s a reason you always gravitate towards the confident people, but guess what? They don’t have it together anymore than you do. Finding confidence in yourself is not only one of the most freeing feelings in the world, but the most rewarding. Be unapologetically who you are and people will be drawn to you for that.
5. Forgive THAT person – life is too short to hold grudges. People are going to disappoint you over and over again. But you will disappoint others as well. Forgive those who wrong you. It’s only hurting you to hold that weight on your shoulders.
