I started this series last year where I selected a word I felt would help me become a better wife, friend, daughter, sister and woman of Christ. I study that word to better understand the true meaning, and reflect on it all week long so I can implement things in my life to help me better achieve that word. This week I focused on the word GRACE.
I am in a bible study with my husband called Re Engage. It’s a program created by Watermark Church and it’s hosted all over the country for couples that want to strengthen their marriage. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re struggling in your marriage, but it’s admitting that you don’t have all the answers and you need Gods help. I’m going to pull some things from one of the lessons because it’s just too good not to share.
So what is grace? In two words, it’s undeserved love. Ephesians 2:8 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it’s the gift of God”. That’s the thing, we don’t deserve grace. It has nothing to do with our actions (or others), but is a result of undeserved love. Our relationship with the Lord is grounded in grace, so our relationship with others (our spouse, friends, family) should be as well. Once we understand that we aren’t perfect and make mistakes, we might be more willing to extend grace to others. So let’s not look at the faults of others, but choose to believe the best about their words and actions. Let’s not be shocked or angry when their actions aren’t perfect. Grace responds kindly to a harsh word or a cold shoulder. Graces causes you to be an advocate for that person rather than build a case against them. Grace is loving that person not because of their actions, but in spite of their actions.
This is definitely something I need to think about and practice each and every day. How can I show grace to those around me? The next time I find myself wanting to be angry or judgmental to someone, I will pray for a better understanding of God’s grace. I will remind myself of the grace I received when I first accepted Christ into my life. I will challenge myself to forgive quickly, give without expectations, and extend to others the benefit of the doubt even when it isn’t easy.

Okay, I know I’m stumbling upon this post super late, but I LOVE this message! My husband and I went through Reengage (we live in Texas, too!) and it totally saved our marriage. I love your blog and sincerely appreciate the fact that you do not lose sight of what’s important. While you definitely rock the material things of this world :), I love that you highlight and elaborate on the things not of this world. Thank you, and please keep it up!
