Our city is so excited preparing for the big game. I heard the other day on the news that over 200 new restaurants have opened in the past couple of months just for all the super bowl hype – how crazy! As much as I know we all would love to attend the actual game, prices are a bit crazy. So I’m rounding up my favorite football snacks you can make at home for friends and family, or bring with you to your super bowl party.

Pigs in a Blanket
AKA: the most amazing things you will ever eat. These are pretty self-explanatory, and the easiest, most delicious guilty pleasure of mine. You will need:
-Pillsbury crescent rolls
-Cocktail-size sausage, hot dogs or turkey dogs
-Cheese (optional)
I’m not gonna lie, I’m not the world’s best chef… but these are so easy it’s almost (keyword) impossible to mess up. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Unroll your can of crescent rolls, separate the triangles and cut each of them in half. Place sausage (and cheese if you’d like some extra greatness) at the end of the triangle and roll that sucker up. Then bake 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown. DO NOT OVER COOK (you don’t want them burnt – believe me). And bon appetit! Told you – so easy even I can make them.
Guacamole
If you’ve ever been to the Crum house, you’ve probably tried our guacamole (because I’m pretty sure we make it at least twice a week). My mother-in-love makes the world’s most bomb guacamole, and I’m going to share her secret. You will need:
-Avocados (depending on their size, I usually use 3-5 avocados)
-Onions
-Secret ingredient: Lawry’s Garlic Salt (you MUST get this brand! it’s key!)
-Salt and pepper
-Tomatoes (optional)
-Jalapeños (optional)
-Lime juice (optional)
First you’ll cut your avocado in half and remove the seed. Scoop out the inside of the avocado and throw away the peel. Mash up your avocado with a fork until it’s mushy. Next, cut up your onion into small pieces. Or if you’re lazy like me (or can’t cut an onion without bawling your eyes out) then buy the precut onions. Add the chopped onions to your avocado mash. Now the key ingredient – Lawry’s garlic salt! Season to taste. If you’d like, you can add in salt, pepper, chopped tomatoes, jalapeños and/or lime juice. Feel free to taste test as you go – that’s the only way you’ll realize what’s missing. Once you’ve included all of your ingredients, mix up completely. Then enjoy! I double-dog-dare you not to eat the whole bowl 😉
Jalapeño Poppers
This is also a favorite in the Crum house. I’m not sure who likes these more – me or my husband? These were one of our favorite things to cook in Nashville because we had a garden in our backyard where we grew fresh jalapeños (YUM)!
What you’ll need:
-Jalapeños
-Cream cheese
-Cheddar cheese
-Bacon or turkey bacon (warning: turkey bacon doesn’t cook as well since there is less fat, it tends to get a little too crispy)
You can either make these spicy or not, but it depends a little on the jalapeños you choose. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Start by washing off your jalapeños (girl, you don’t know where those have been). Then slice each in half. You can choose to keep some of the seeds if you like a little extra heat. Next, you will fill each slice with cream cheese. Then you sprinkle a little (or a lot) bit of cheddar cheese on top of each popper. Finally, you will wrap the whole thing in a slice of bacon. Bake the poppers for about 20 minutes, or until the peppers are soft. Remove from oven and let cool (unless you’re like me and can’t resist, so you burn your tongue before they have time to cool – oh well, worth it).
Okay, now that my tummy is rumbling, I think I’ll go raid my pantry and try to find some ingredients to make one of these! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Please leave me a comment if you decide to make any of these. Happy Super Bowl!!
