Well guys… we’re getting so close to baby girl’s arrival! I am 37 weeks pregnant, and finally got our hospital bag packed and ready to go. As a first-time-mom, I honestly had no idea what I was doing or what I would need. But after a lot of research, I think I’ve compiled a pretty good list of what to bring. With everything going on right now with Covid-19, the hospital rules are a little different. No one is allowed in the hospital with me besides Clayton, which means no visitors. As bummed as we are, we know it’s what’s best for our safety and the safety of all the healthcare professionals risking their lives every day. With that being said, I wanted to make sure we packed everything we might need since we won’t be able to have anyone bring us anything. I hope this helps any other first time momma’s out there!
What I’m Packing in my Hospital Bag and More!
Stuff for Mom:
— 2 pairs of nursing-friendly pajamas
— Slippers or fuzzy socks
— Either a comfy robe or pretty robe (personal preference)
— Flowy dress to wear home
— Nursing tank
— Lounge joggers (or comfy sweatpants)
— Nursing bra
— Barefoot dreams blanket (or anything super comfy)
— Pillow (just to help me feel more comfortable)
— Baby’s name necklace or “mama” necklace (use code JESS15 for 15% off)
— Ritual Prenatal Vitamins (use code JESSCRUM for 10% off your first three months)
Electronics & Other Essentials:
— Laptop and charger (to watch Netflix)
— Wallet (make sure to have your drivers license and insurance card)
— Baby book
— Portable charger
— Fan
— White noise sound machine
— Polaroid camera + film (we thought this would be a cute idea since we can’t have a photographer in there)
— Night light
— Extra long phone charger
— Portable speaker
— Pink amazon cup
— SNACKS
Toiletries:
— Dry shampoo, hair brush, hair ties
— Deodorant
— Toothbrush & toothpaste
— Deodorant wipes
— Face wipes or face wash
— Lip balm or chapstick
— Make up (probably won’t wear a lot, but just to feel more put together)
Stuff for Baby:
— Car seat
— Diaper bag (use code JESS for 15% off!)
— Going home outfit
— Announcement outfit (for pictures)
— Barefoot dreams blanket (or any soft blanket)
— A swaddle
— Paci
— Bows (or hats for boys)
— 2 pair of socks
— 1 gown, NB onesie
Stuff for Dad:
— 3 changes of clothes (clothes/boxers/socks)
— Sweats and hoodie/pajamas
— Shirt for hospital photos (something casual)
— Twin sheet set (we got him these jersey sheets)
— Slippers
— Towels (one for me, one for Clayton — I’ve heard the hospital ones are super scratchy)
— Refillable water bottle
— Pillow
— Headphones
— Phone charger
— Bathroom essentials (toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, face wash, etc.)
— Barefoot dreams blanket
— Camera
— SNACKS (since we won’t be able to have anyone bring us food, we wanted to load up on a bunch of snacks — protein bars, chips, etc.)
I’ve heard the hospital provides basically everything else you need. No need to pack all of the “postpartum essentials” — they will have all of that for you (as well as a ton of stuff for the baby). I did put together a postpartum kit to have ready-to-go for when we get home from the hospital. I shared each of these over on my instagram stories (which I also saved to a highlight reel), but will link all of the products here as well!
Postpartum Essentials:
And last but not least, I wanted to share the nurses baskets I made. I have heard from basically everyone that the nurses are a God-send during labor and delivery. They work SO hard (especially right now with everything going on with the pandemic) and deserve all the thanks we can give. I wanted to put together a little basket of snacks as a simple way to just show our appreciation. It was super easy to put together, and fun to do as well. I made two separate baskets — one for the daytime nurses and one for the nighttime nurses — and made sure to write them a sweet note as well. I will have Clayton drop these off at the nurses station when we arrive at the hospital, so they feel comfortable digging into the treats. If you’d like to do something similar, just grab some single-serving snacks and fill a basket! You don’t have to spend a ton of money, but even the littlest gestures mean a lot to them.
Nurses Baskets:
I hope this was helpful for you guys! I also went into a little bit more detail over on instagram stories, and will make sure to save everything to my “Hospital Bag” highlight reel. We are so excited to welcome our baby girl in the next two weeks — I can’t believe we’re almost there! Please let me know in the comments below if there’s any MUST HAVE items I left off.
Have you had to pack a hospital bag before? What did you pack in yours? Let me know in a comment below!

Hi Jessica did you use the frida postpartum products? Any comment on them? I’m trying to decide what all to pick up for my daughter. She’s about 3 weeks from delivery. Thank you
